School Science - KS3, GCSE & A-level Physics

Year 9 to year 13

Key Stage 3 science occurs from Year 7 to Year 9. The end of key stage 3 science test (SAT) is taken in Year 9 when the child is 14 years old. This determines which class a student is placed in for their GCSE's. The syllabus over the three years covers biology, chemistry and physics.

Gcse Science Gateway Core is taken in year 10. Worth a single science GCSE award with six modules, two each from biology (B1, B2), chemistry (C1, C2) and physics (P1, P2). Two exams take place in the year.

Gcse Science Gateway Additional is taken in year 11. Worth a single science GCSE award with six modules, two each from biology (B3, B4), chemistry (C3, C4) and physics (P3, P4). Two exams take place in the year.

A/s and A-level Physics starts in year 12 and extends the physics syllabus covered at GCSE. At this point you are expected to begin thinking for yourself!
